Seniors Helping Seniors Scholarship Program
The Seniors Helping Seniors scholarship is designed for students in the Valdez area who will be graduating this year. This scholarship is funded by The Valdez Senior Center’s gaming account. In 2018 we were able to gift two scholarships of $850 each to two very deserving students. Please feel free to join us for BINGO every Wednesday at 1 p.m. to help our Seniors help Seniors.
It is a faculty nomination style scholarship. We request that any members of the Valdez High School faculty (teachers, office, coaches, janitorial, kitchen workers, etc.) or other High School program who would like to fill out the quick application form to please feel free to submit up to three (3) students per faculty member.
The qualification requirements are very simple. We want recommendations for students who need that financial push to further their education. Students who need the verbal vote of confidence. Who may lack the support in other areas of their lives and need to know that our community cares about them and wants to see them succeed. We want to make a difference in a student’s life. We have requested GPA, but we acknowledge that every student learns differently, and a GPA does not always accurately represent a student’s capabilities and motivation. We will be looking at all aspects of the submitted applications, and not limit it to grades.
The applications will be reviewed by the Valdez Senior Center Scholarship Committee. The scholarship recipient(s) will be contacted prior to scholarship night. A short portion of the application may be read during the event, though the faculty member’s name will not be specified. The scholarship is for furthering the student’s education, which may include college, a tech school or certifications. The deadline for this application is April 30th.
